I’ve never seen someone love tofu as much as our son Desmond. He wants to eat it every day.
It started when he ate some tofu off Shauna’s breakfast plate. I’d cooked a big bowl of greens, mushrooms, and tofu for Shauna. As she started to eat, Desmond came into the room and said, “What’s that?” He took a bite of the tofu I had marinated in our teriyaki sauce, and sauteed. One moment of chewing and he was in love.
Desmond has asked to eat tofu every day since. It’s a great, quick breakfast or snack for him. This is a kid who doesn’t love a lot of different foods. He’s getting better at trying new foods but he still only loves about 15 foods now. Some are the standard kid foods, but he fell in love with roasted cauliflower when he understood that his friend Carmen requested it for dinner. And he loved tofu after he had some of Shauna’s. Maybe he needs to know that someone he loves trusts a food before he’ll like it.
Whatever it is, I’m happy to serve him tofu. I have a block of tofu marinating in the refrigerator, always, so he can have some when he wants it. Since he likes to eat it every day, we never need to worry it’s going to go to waste.
This is a good habit to practice, especially if you have ADHD. Marinate and prepare food to go into the refrigerator. That way, when you need something good to eat, you’re ready to cook. You’re bound to get better food in you if you can set yourself a reminder to plan ahead.
